Get It Right (free) 02:20
With the words that are in your head You can change my mind again Copy from the text of old Change the words into your own But get it right, get it right If you’re gonna, gonna waste my time Get it right, get it right If you gotta, make up your damn mind Get it right, get it right If you’re gonna, gonna waste my time Get it right, get it right If you could see what is in my mind You would change before my eyes You were red but my gold turned you green So you stood there lying through your teeth And get it right, get it right If you’re gonna, gonna waste my time Get it right, get it right If you gotta, make up your damn mind Get it right, get it right If you’re gonna, gonna waste my time Get it right, get it right Before you say it Before you do anything at all You will want to think it through because This could be your final call Oh but if you say so I will follow
2.
Inches Apart 03:57
You were born with thicker skin And I am only oxygen Whispering, darling please don’t stay Because you can leave but I won’t wait When I’m cold And I’m lonely Hold me in your arms We’ll grow old We will only Be inches apart I have built my cell by hand I was dreaming of the southern sand And while every night you visit me Darling you are friends with misery When I’m cold And I’m lonely Hold me in your arms We’ll grow old We will only Be inches apart When I’m cold And I’m lonely Hold me in your arms We’ll grow old We will only Be inches apart Oceans won’t take you Oceans won’t take you Oceans won’t take you Oceans won’t take you
3.
Don’t tell me I’m sleeping I’m dreaming, but I must be doing it well Because nobody can tell These places, I made them I’m tracing the lines that keep you from me In reality But I can move mountains here if I want to And nobody argues Because nobody can hear it Because the world doesn’t know what the world doesn’t know That it lives in my mind and so now I have total control And nobody’s aware and so they don’t find it strange Every cell in your body belongs to the thought in my brain The sky’s on fire tonight And it looks just like it would seem If we were living a dream Because here we are standing Our bodies are white by light of the moon And envy makes us green Yeah but in this world you won’t turn away No in this world you’re gonna stay here with me For as long as I please Because the world doesn’t know what the world doesn’t know That it lives in my mind and so now I have total control And nobody’s aware and so they don’t find it strange Every cell in your body belongs to the thought in my brain Every cell in your body belongs to the thought in my brain Every cell in your body belongs to the thought in my brain Every cell in your body belongs to the thought in my brain
4.
I dream of lives that are far away Made an escape from a lonely home Collected years from a novel’s page So I’d never feel like I am alone You colored my words with your golden tongue And shifted and blurred what is in my heart I am not sure why they call it love Why does it feel like it’s so damn hard Hey something has gone very wrong Sometimes it will seep out slowly And you’ll never even know That you’re lonely until you’re old You’d see it written there in my face If you had ever looked in my eyes I have grown old and have been replaced So I can’t remember what I felt like when I was young Hey something has gone very wrong Sometimes it will seep out slowly And you’ll never even know That you’re lonely until you’re old Oh Oh If you can’t quite recall Maybe you never knew If you can’t quite recall Maybe you never knew

about

'Golden Tongue' is the debut EP from Brooklyn's Jeni Magana. It's a brief, bold and bitterly beautiful calling card from the young artist. Four tracks of brittle and erratic guitar pop. These are weary songs, delivered with both anger and acceptance. There’s a hint of the eccentric and a tinge of melodramatic but these songs sound as haunted and traveled as they do vital and honest.

Released via Audio Antihero Records.

Press:

"Beautiful debut...a story of love and sacrifice...Delivers the haunted resilience of someone who has found self-acceptance." - London in Stereo

“Recalling Torres and Sharon Van Etten at their most intimate moments...Magana’s parched vocal is a complete heartbreaker.” - The Line of Best Fit

"With what is just the briefest of snapshot Magana has invited us into her world and in the process created something which feels expansive and breathlessly travelled." - GoldFlakePaint

"Glorious." - Podcart

"Dream folk perfection." - The Deli NYC

“There's something beautiful in finding what you want and demanding it, and Magana perfectly captures that.” - The Grey Estates

“Magana enters the scene guns blazing with the simple request to be the real deal or no deal at all.” - IMPOSE

"Magana’s voice is a lively rasp that emotes a jaded sense of heartbreak spurred by a lover who talks but does not listen." - The Le Sigh

“Through music I have learned the shape of desire – contoured and faceted, with the texture of velvet and the sheen of spilt oil on the blacktop. In Magana I feel it again.” - Collapse Board

"Golden Tongue has enough range of emotion and musical variety to engage the attention from start to finish, and it feels like a journey in a way that many full albums fail to...It sounds like the birth of a new star." - Musos' Guide

“Jeni’s voice is entirely her own.” - For the Rabbits

"I truly can’t wait to hear what she does next." - VAMP

"A whisper in your ear, bedroom acoustics performer who has broken out from the background of being a session musician to taking centre stage." - Bearded Magazine

"When I hear a song like this, I start believing there is a primal source of strength that music, but only some music, manages to channel into the outer world. Magana does that." - Beautiful Freaks

"I could see her (right now) opening up for St. Vincent on her next tour. Yes that should happen. It feels right to me. After that I want to hear Magana's full length." - American Pancake

"Fragile and delicate, playing like a morning after some traumatic event, smells and sounds and phantom feelings wisping their way into the present, leaving the narrator to grasp whatever negligible weight they still hold." - Wake the Deaf

"Golden Tongue shows us someone who has spent years singing from other people’s hymn sheets finding her own voice, and it’s the voice of a confident artist who is capable of expressing both great frustration and great tenderness in a very compelling way. One minute, she sounds introverted and retiring; the next, she’s lashing out angrily at those who would talk over her." - God Is In The TV
